Artificial Grass True Weight System

Purchasing the right synthetic turf for your needs is important.

You may need a small side yard between your fence and a path; an area for your pets; landscape product in place of a dry rock bed; or to replace your entire front or back yard. Each need can require a different approach or budget. See product specs for details.

Many talk about face weight or how a sample looks in hand. These are important, however they are not all one should know. In purchasing turf, the true test is really how the turf will look after it is installed and for years to come. This is why purchasing turf from a reputable company is job one.

Understanding the weight of the turf will simply act as a guide, however turf can me measured in a variety of ways. Remember to ask for the weight of all of the layers, the coating (if coated), and all of the face yarns. Many will simply give the total weight; this can lead to the turf appearing to weigh 6 to 26 oz more than another company's turf, simply because the comparison is not apples to apples. The weight of the turf is not the most important aspect in purchasing turf, however understanding just how it works is important.

A few quick questions:

  1. How was it constructed and of what grade material?
  2. Who made your turf and what country was it made in?
  3. Just how will your turf look now and in the future?

Quick Fact: Many prefer a lighter ounce product for a variety of applications since it may look a bit more sporadic, like natural turf.

If you are having issues with your pet going on your lawn, installing a dog run may be the answer. In many situations the pet may prefer to go on the smaller area where you installed the dog run.

Quick tip for training: If your real grass is wet your dog may prefer the dry dog run.

#1. WHY CHOOSE US?
We provide a quality product and deliver it in a professional manner. Our factory direct relationship provides fast and reliable service and our excellent customer service sets us apart from our competitors. back to question

#2. IS IT SAFE FOR MY PETS?
The majority of synthetic turf customers are pet owners! Many pet boarding facilities and humane societies have artificial grass. PREGRA® is the ideal solution to the problem of pet urine discoloring or staining the grass. With our PREGRA® Super Fill pet urine is absorbed and neutralized. For solid waste simply pick up as you normally would, and hose down the area, if necessary, brush the turf back into is original state. back to question

#3. CAN ANIMALS HURT THE TURF?
No. It is commonly used for pet runs as an alternative to concrete or rock. Urine is not a problem as it absorbs into the sand and rubber and eventually evaporates. Other messes clean up the same as natural grass. You can even spray the soiled area with a hose, and then brush the turf back into place. The turf is also installed with extra spikes to secure it to the ground. back to question

#4. WILL IT FADE?
No. Our fibers have a UV protection coating and can withstand the damaging effects of sun, heat, wind, snow, and ice. We have synthetic putting greens that were installed in 1987 with no visible signs of fading. back to question

#5. HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?
Pregra is built to last and carries a 8 Year Limited Warranty!. back to question

#6. HOW DOES IT DRAIN?
The drainage is very similar to natural grass. The turf backing has many perforated holes allowing for water to drain vertically allowing the in-fill (sand) to absorb and hold the water. back to question

#7. WILL THE WEATHER AFFECT THE TURF?
We install turf in the mountains, where rain and snow drain very well with no flooding issues. Wind is not a worry since the turf is secured to the ground so well by our installers that it doesn't affect the turf or move at all! As you know, our Southwest sun can get very hot, so during midday direct sun, the grass may feel hot to the touch. The grass does not retain heat in the shade or darkness like rock does. The turf can easily take even the hottest direct sunlight without damage providing that there isn't any strong reflection or sun magnification. back to question

#8. HOW SAFE IS IT FOR MY KIDS?
Not only is it safe but it eliminates allergies and research shows children have fewer injuries when playing on turf compared to other ground covers. We install at schools and day care centers. Our turf meets all state requirements for safety. The Super Fill also helps keep the turf cooler in the summer. And when done playing the kids don't itch like with regular grass. They Love It!! back to question

#9. ARE WEEDS A PROBLEM?
Periodically a weed will try to come up, most commonly on the edges near concrete. It is possible to see one come up in a drain hole. If that happens simply pull up the weed and spray the area with a little weed killer, it will stop the weed from coming up again and won't harm the turf. back to question

#10. WHAT KIND OF WARRANTY DOES THIS HAVE?
An 8-year limited factory warranty from the manufacturer is included. back to question

#11. CAN IT BE INSTALLED OVER CONCRETE?
Yes, but since water will have no place to drain, in a few years, you might get some mold underneath the grass. If you do get mold, you can just pour common bleach on the grass and it should kill the mold underneath without harming the grass. back to question

#12. AN IT BE INSTALLED OVER SAND?
No, we don't recommend installing it over sand because the sand will eventually shift causing "a wavy appearance" in the grass. back to question

#13. WHAT KIND OF GROUND SURFACE CAN YOU INSTALL PREGRA ON?
We recommend installing the grass over at lease two inches of decomposed granite if it is available in your area; if not, ¼ minus pea gravel is good.
back to question

#14. HOW DO YOU CLEAN OR MAINTAIN PREGRA?
Once a month or so (more often if you have a lot of trees or pets) you should clean the grass by using either a power leaf blower or a stiff bristled hand broom. Brush (or blow) against the natural grain of the grass with the hand broom to make the blades of grass stand up. This will re-fluff the grass and get the dirt off of it. You should lightly hose down the grass once a week or so. Remember, grass gets watered every day so the dirt and air pollution gets washed off. Since artificial grass never needs water (yea!) it doesn't get washed, so you have to do it occasionally. back to question

#15. HOW DOES PREGRA HOLD UP TO DOG DIGGING?
Dogs rarely dig into artificial grass and it is almost impossible for them (even the largest dogs) to dig through the grass. If however the grass is damaged, it can easily be repaired with some left over scrape pieces from the original installation. back to question

#16. HOW DO YOU CLEAN UP URINE OR DOG DROPPINGS?
Pick up the solids with your "pooper scooper" and then hose it down. Hose down the grass at least once a week where the dog usually urinates. This will typically clean and deodorize the grass. If there still is a strong smell, you can use PREGRA SUPER FILL which will neutralize the ammonia in the urine. back to question

#17. WHAT ABOUT STAINS?
Very little will stain PREGRA, including; oil, dog urine, weed killer & chlorine. back to question

#18. WHAT TEMPERATURE WILL THE GRASS REACH IN THE SUMMER?
It is difficult to say because of the position of the yard as it relates to the sun, how much shade that is in the yard and variations in the climates throughout the US.

You should know however that in the hot Southwest part of the US, the grass can get quite warm to the touch during the midday direct sun. The grass however can easily take even the hottest direct sunlight without damage providing that there are no strong reflections or sun magnification. Any possible heat from the grass will immediately dissipate when the direct sun is removed. back to question

#19. WILL WEEDS GROW THROUGH THE TURF?
A weed barrier is advisable because weeds can eventually grow through the grass drainage holes. Weeds can grow up through the grass particularly if the old natural grass or weed roots were not removed properly or if there was not ample amount of decomposed granite sub base installed. If this happens you can easily solve the problem by pouring weed killer on top of the grass where the weeds have come up. Weed killer will not harm the grass in any way. back to question

#20. WHAT IF I WANT TO REMOVE THE GRASS OR TAKE IT WITH ME?
You can "peel" back the grass and roll it up to take with you. If you want to get underneath it to make an irrigation repair or for some other reason, just "peel" it back. When you are done, just smooth out the rock base to make it level again and lay the grass back down (make sure that you remove all wrinkles). Re-secure the grass with new 6" nails. The grass is designed to removed if need be. back to question
